SEM Image of Gold Nanoparticles and Nanoplates

This is an SEM Image of gold nanoparticles and gold nanoplates viewed at 7000x magnificaiton.  These particles are made up of gold and are therefore conductive and required no treatment prior to imaging.  The gold nanoplates have a very large aspect ratio with a plate thickness of only ~ 50nm but a legnth and width in the 5-10 micron (1 micron = 1000nm) range!

SEM Image of Salt

This is an image of table salt at 500x magnification imaged using a LEO SEM.  Because the salt grains are so large to begin with fairly low magnification can be used to image the material.  This is also one of a series of images that I took and used for this websites header image.
